The green superfood smoothie

As you probably know I am a big fan of superfoods and I love to add them to my diet whenever possible. I get a lot of questions regarding superfoods and their flavor (especially the green super foods), since the taste can be quite strong and to be honest a bit yucky a lot of you have emailed me about how to “get them down”.

First off I would like to say that personally I don’t eat or drink things that I do not like the taste of – even if the health benefits are amazing – it is just not worth it. Buuut that does not mean that I think you should just give up on those super foods because there are definitely ways to camouflage their flavors and even make them really tasty! My favorite way to do this is by adding them to smoothies, you can pretty much add anything (at least in smaller amounts) to a smoothie and it will still taste great! Unfortunately this is not always the case with green superfoods as their taste can be quite strong and they often do not work well with e.g. the sweet berry smoothies – this is where this green smoothie comes in, it is one of my absolute favorite smoothie recipes and it is perfect for camouflaging the flavor of especially green superfoods. The pineapple and lime gives it a nice tropical taste and even the ones who usually do not like green smoothies seems to love this one – haha it even has my dads approval!!

I like my smoothies really big, so this makes about 0.5 liter, but you can always make a smaller one and it taste amazing without the superfoods as well of course – then you don’t need to add as much pineapple and lime to mask the supefood flavor and I would recommend adding more spinach – I promise you won’t taste it! ;)

You can use whatever superfoods you have available and just adjust the amounts to your liking, you will get used to their flavors over time and be able to add larger amounts – I have even ended up really liking the flavor of most of my superfoods even though I couldn’t stand them at first!!

1-2 cups spinach
1 banana
1 – 1.5 cup frozen pineapple (depends how sweet you want it)
The juice from 1 lime
Water to blend (depends on how thick you want your smoothie)
Your superfood of choice – I added 1 teaspoon wheatgrass, 1 teaspoon spirulina and 1 teaspoon maca (all from this brand – affiliate link)

    Hey Signe,
    har undret mig lidt over det med frossen frugt, normalt skal det koges først pga. bakterier, så vidt jeg har forstået? (Primært bær) Må man godt bare købe frossen frugt og putte i blenderen? Eller er det fordi du selv fryser ned? :yum:

      Hej Celina,
      Jeg fryser normalt selv bananer, ananas osv. ned, men bær plejer jeg at købe. Det er helt rigtigt at sundhedsstyrelsen anbefaler, at alle frosne bær skal koges inden brug, det er ikke noget jeg personligt gør eller nogensinde har gjort (eller kender nogen der gør) og jeg har aldrig haft nogle problemer selvom jeg drikker smoothies hver eneste dage. MEN jeg vil anbefale, at du følger sundhedsstyrelsen anbefaling, haha jeg skal ikke have det siddende på mig, hvis du nu skulle være en af de uheldige, der bliver syg af ukogte bær :scream:
